Paul Pogba's world-record transfer to Manchester United caused some hilarious reaction on Twitter.

Not long after midnight, United finally announced that the summer's longest-running transfer saga is over:

Pogba, 23, has signed a five-year contract with the option of a sixth season after United agreed a deal with Juventus which Press Association Sport understands is worth €105million (£89million).

That figure eclipses the estimated £85million that Real Madrid paid Tottenham for Gareth Bale in 2013 in the previous world-record transfer.

United did not confirm the fee paid when announcing the deal.

Pogba left United four years ago for a nominal fee, and went on to win four Serie A titles and the Coppa Italia twice while his reputation grew – persuading United chiefs to back Jose Mourinho's transfer policy by paying a colossal sum to bring the France star back to Old Trafford.

While United supporters are in dreamland at the news, other football supporters had differing opinions on the matter.

Juventus fans, naturally, were not in the least bit happy with Pogba’s departure:

While others don't believe he measures up to some current and former Premier League central midfielders:

Pikachu, on the other hand, is happy enough with the move:

While the inevitable Europa League jibe was thrown in by many:

It will be intriguing to see how Pogba fares out back at his old club, with United travelling to Bournemouth for their Premier League opener on Sunday.
