Roy Keane rips into "stupid" Man City after Barca hammering
Roy Keane accused Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola of being ‘very brave and very stupid’ as he chastised the tactics he deployed in his side's 4-0 Champions League defeat against Barcelona.
City were outclassed by the Catalan giants at the Nou Camp on a night when Guardiola left his star striker Sergio Aguero on the bench and saw his keeper Claudio Bravo red carded, with Keane offering up a typically feisty analysis of their display in his role as an ITV pundit.
“City’s approach was very brave and very stupid as well,” stated Keane.
“Their goalkeeper was sent off and they had players guilty of overplaying in the wrong areas. Everyone loves to see good football, but you need to make a decision when to play and when to clear your lines. Clearly, City got punished for the number of mistakes they made.
“I have never read or heard about a goalkeeper coming to a club and hearing so much about what he does with his feet. The bottom line is he is a goalkeeper, but there is a time to play and a time to play your lines. His decision making was all wrong.
“City were guilty of overplaying and it was an easy night for Messi. Barcelona were not at their best, they had a few setbacks, but once again they flexed their muscles.
“Barcelona will always give you chances, but you have to take them.”
Keane also offered his view on Guardiola’s surprise decision to leave Aguero on the bench, as he came up with a reason why the Argentine was left out.
“He is their star man and their main goal threat and he was left on the bench, but obviously the manager has got his reasons,” added Keane.
“I’m not saying Aguero is slow, but maybe he wanted a little but more pace up front. When you get hammered, people will ask questions.”
