Rooney under fire again as Martial rescues Man Utd
Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney came under fire once more after his latest poor showing in a central striking role, as Anthony Martial rescued a point against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.
Martial scored a delightful diving header to rescue Manchester United from a damaging defeat at CSKA Moscow in a 1-1 draw, yet it was Rooney's display that sparked social media debate once more.
The decision by United boss Louis van Gaal to move Martial from the central striking role he was thriving in and into a wide position to accommodate Rooney's return to the central role has not been met with approval by all of the club's supporters.
On a night when Rooney looked out of sorts and Martial produced a fine goal to secure a valuable point for United in Moscow, the debate over the future of the United skipper was raised again.

CSKA’s centre backs are both in mid 30s. Rooney’s managed to make them look young again— United Rant (@unitedrant) October 21, 2015
Please, just drop Wayne Rooney.— Liam (@OffsideLiam) October 21, 2015
We are different team with Martial up front compared to Rooney. A clear lack of urgency and quick movement with the latter.— Hashbrown (@hesham786) October 21, 2015
Dissapointed we couldn't win this game. Our killer instinct is weak if u play Rooney upfront— Rolito (@rolandreverson) October 21, 2015
Is it fair to bench Depay for being poor in a couple of games while Rooney is starting weekly despite his horrible performances?! #MUFC— Nasser United (@NasserAAlaskar) October 21, 2015
Meanwhile, United great and BT Sport Paul Scholes wants to see more from Van Gaal's United, as he suggested Rooney is not getting the kind of support he needs to shine:
