Dutch great Ronald de Boer has suggested Holland international Memphis Depay is perfectly suited to Manchester United, after claiming the winger’s desire to work with Louis van Gaal once again is propelling his move to Old Trafford.

Depay was a star turn for Van Gaal’s Dutch side that reached the World Cup semi-finals last summer, with the PSV Eindhoven star now preparing to make a career defining move after it was confirmed by his club that both United and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in his services.

Our Sunday World exclusive last weekend also suggested Liverpool would fail in their bid to hijack the Depay transfer and now De Boer has added weight to the theory that the 21-year-old is on his way to United.

“If he goes to United he knows there is a Dutch coach there who knows him from the World Cup. That is an advantage,” former Barcelona star De Boer told talkSPORT.

“He is one of the biggest talents in Europe. He has skill compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo. He is very lively, technically unbelievable, very skilful, very fast, he has a great goalscoring record, he can shoot from every distance - he has everything.

“For me, he is without doubt one of the best talents we have. Can he do it in the Premier League? We would have to wait and see, but I think he can do it.”

De Boer went on to suggest Van Gaal is ready to guide United towards the Premier League title next season if he makes the right signings this summer.

"I know Van Gaal is enjoying his time at United and he will enjoy it even more next season if he is playing Champions League," added De Boer.

"He will look to make some good signings this summer and it will make it much more interesting for him. Then he can get some strength in the team."

PSV have already confirmed that United have been in contact over their interest in Depay, with this story set to dominate the transfer agenda until the youngster makes a decision on his future.
