Rodgers - Liverpool can be champions next season
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has vowed to prove his critics wrong by turning his team into contenders for next season's Premier League title.
The Red are currently 19 points behind champions-elect Chelsea and look unlikely to seal a top four finish that would bring Champions League football back to Anfield, after a rapid fall from grace following last season's runners-up finish in the Premier League.
Yet Rodgers was bullish about his side's prospects for next season as he faced the media before Liverpool's trip to face Hull on Tuesday night.
When asked whether Liverpool would be in a position to end their 25-year wait for the English title next season, Rodgers responded: "Absolutely.
"We have great hope we can really push on again. I have absolutely no doubt it will happen.
"Of course it’s been disappointing not to have had a challenge this season, but I am ambitious to win and there is no greater place than here to win. I am still committed and motivated to do that here for sure.
“It is difficult to be where we are now, but you can’t just accept it. I think it’s something you have to continue to fight. We have to continue to find ways to develop players and find a way to break that."
Rodgers has come under increasing pressure after big Premier League defeats against Manchester United and Arsenal were followed by a a desperately disappointing loss in the FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa at Wembley.
