Chelsea and Tottenham are being linked with a shock move to sign Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie in the final hours of the transfer window.

Van Persie has struggled to make his mark in Turkey since leaving Manchester United last summer and is believed to be keen to secure a transfer back to England.

Reports suggest a possible move to Chelsea would only be on a loan deal initially, with the Blues keen to add to their forward line before they consider off-loading striker Loic Remy.

A move for 31-year-old Van Persie would be something of a surprise for Chelsea's interim boss Guus Hiddink, but he knows his compatriot well having worked with him in the Dutch national team set-up last year.

Ex-Arsenal striker Van Persie's links with Tottenham have emerged in recent days, with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino keen to add an experienced forward to their line-up as they look to push for the Premier League title and the FA Cup this season.

Fenerbahce have been keen to stress they will not allow Van Persie to leave before the 11pm transfer deadline on Monday, but this is one rumours that refuses to go away.
