Riyad Mahrez's agent hints at move to a "big club"
Riyad Mahrez’s agent has suggested there is only a 50-50 chance that his client will remain at Leicester for next season.
PFA Player of the Year Mahrez has been one of the shining stars of the Foxes remarkable title surge that will conclude with their captain Wes Morgan being presented with the Premier League trophy on Saturday.
Yet it already seems as if the Leicester team that have enchanted the sporting world this season may be broken up, with advisers to their midfielder N’Golo Kante’s already in talks with interested parties over a move this summer.
Now Mahrez’s agent Kamel Bengougam has told the Guardian that his star client may be ready to cash in on his success at a moment when he is at the peak of his powers, with Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea among the club’s being linked with a move for the Algerian playmaker.
“Yes of course there is a possibility,” Bengougam said when asked whether Mahrez could move ahead of the new season.
“When you have been playing the way Riyad has this season it is bound to attract attention. He is very happy with Leicester and of course it has been a fantastic season.
“They will play in the Champions League next year as well so he would be happy to stay, but at his age if the opportunity comes to play for a big team then we would have to think about it. I'd say it's 50-50 at the moment whether he stays or goes.
“We have interest from the UK and overseas. We will have to see what develops over the next few weeks.”
There is a danger that Leicester will head into next season having lost several of the players who carried their title challenge, with Kante and Mahrez almost impossible to replace if they do leave the club in the coming weeks.
