Riyad Mahrez has given a strong hint that he is ready to leave Premier League champions Leicester City, as he continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal.

Mahrez was the shining star of Leicester’s improbable Premier League title triumph last season and has been the subject of heated speculation in the months since.

There have been strong suggestions that the Algerian international - who was named as the PFA Player of the Year last season - has asked to leave Leicester amid increasingly strong interest from Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and these comments have fuelled those rumours.

"We know that Leicester will not win the league again. We are not Manchester United or Chelsea," he told France Football.

“There are two or three clubs in the world, that if they come for me, it definitely makes you think, if you understand what I am trying to say.

“It (the Premier League) is the best league in the world, the most exciting, where there is the most at stake. There is also constantly a little uncertainty.

"Last year, we won the league. In Spain, you will never see Levante or Granada finishing top. In France, since the new PSG, it is the same.

“Same in Germany, with Bayern and Dortmund, or in Italy with Juventus. In the Premier League there is a greater depth of teams who can do it with City, Arsenal, United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool. They can all win it.”

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Mahrez all summer and while the signing of a quick-footed midfielder may not appear to be a priority for Wenger at a time when he is in the midst of a defensive crisis and needs extra firepower in attack, this deal would lift the spirits of the club’s supporters.

Intriguingly, Mahrez will get a chance to impress Arsenal and Wenger this weekend, as the Foxes welcome the Gunners to their King Power Stadium for an intriguing Premier League fixture.
