Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand had a wide cast to pick from as he selected his top six team-mates in an exclusive chat with sundayworld.com.

Rio spoke to us at the launch of BT Sport's Premier League coverage in London, with the names he threw up as the best players he played alongside certain to set a few tongues wagging.

It may be that the players he left create more talking points than those he has named, but here is what Rio had to say to us, with Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney among the notable exceptions in his shortlist.

Yet those that have missed out cannot feel too hard done by as Ferdinand looked to both his United and England career to pick his top men.

"I was lucky to play with a lot of great players during my career and trying to put a top five in order would be difficult," Ferdinand told us.

Here are Ferdinand's picks:

CRISTIANO RONALDO - He was just starting his career when he joined United, but you could see he was going to be amazing. He is gone on to be the best player on the planet.

PAUL SCHOLES - Everyone who played with Paul Scholes will say that he was one of the best players they have been on a pitch with. Scholesy was fantastic.

ROY KEANE - He may not have been at his very best by the time I joined United, but you could see that Keane was a special player for a number of reasons.

NEMANJA VIDIC - I had a great partnership with him at United and he was a fantastic player in terms of his consistency.

STEVEN GERRARD/FRANK LAMPARD - Those two seem to go together don't they, a double act. They were great team-mates in the England team.
