Report - Mourinho to raid Chelsea to add midfielder to Man United team
There are reports in the UK today that Jose Mourinho is plotting a swoop to bring a current Chelsea player to Old Trafford.
Today's Sun are reporting that out-of-favour midfielder John Obi Mikel is wanted by Mourinho in a bargain January deal.
The Sun suggest that Mourinho sees the 29-year-old as a defensive anchor that would allow Paul Pogba to roam forward and play at his best.
A fee of just £2m is floated in the report, and with Mikel out of contract at the end of the season, it might be enough to convince the Blues to let the player go.
It is now 10 years since Manchester United thought they had signed the Nigerian only for a dispute to blow up between them and Chelsea over who had actually signed the player.
The matter was eventually solved when Chelsea paid United £12m and his Norwegian club Lyn Oslo £4m to secure his services.
Mikel has made almost 250 starts for Chelsea in his decade at the club but he has yet to feature under new boss Antonio Conte, furthering the idea that they would be happy to see him leave Stamford Bridge.
The Sun report also says that Mourinho's first target for the defensive midfielder role is Leicester's Danny Drinkwater but it is thought that the Foxes continued run in the Champions League will mean they won't sell the England international.
