According to reports Arsenal's hopes of bringing in a defender may be damaged by the Manchester United manager's feelings towards Arsene Wenger.

The Evening Standard says that the Special One won't allow Phil Jones to sign for the Gunners as he refuses to do business with the Frenchman.

The England international has been linked with a move away after failing to make any of Mourinho's three matchday squads so far, and both Arsenal and Stoke have been linked with taking him off United's hands.

But this report suggests that Stoke are in pole position, with Arsenal now scrambling to find other options to bolster their defence.

One target, Shkodran Mustafi, is now reportedly not for sale while they were quoted a huge price for West Brom's Jonny Evans.

Jones has struggled with injury at United, and he hasn't played since early January, but the Standard report goes on to say that the 24-year-old has been told that he has a role at Old Trafford but he won't feature every week.

That may not be enough for the player, who may fancy a more regular role elsewhere but it now looks like that new home almost certainly won't be the Emirates.
