According to reports in Spain, Liverpool have entered the race for an unwanted big name at Real Madrid.

The Star carry a report from Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo which says that while Arsenal and Chelsea have made the more solid offers so far, Liverpool have also been in touch about the availability of James Rodriguez.

The Colombian doesn't seem to fit into Zinedine Zidane's plans and his huge wages would be handy to get off the books, even for a club as wealthy as Real Madrid.

The Spanish report claims that the 25-year-old could be sold for around €60m, €20m less than what they signed him for two years ago.

The player is reported to want to stay at the European champs, but with Milan and PSG also reported to have shown an interest, a real transfer war may begin with just a week left in the window.

The very detailed Spanish report goes on to say that Real Madrid supremo Florentino Perez does not believe that Liverpool have the money for the deal and that the only two realistic deals are with Chelsea or Arsenal, with Arsenal seemingly in the lead.

The arrival of a player of Rodriguez' class may be just the move Arsene Wenger needs to calm the increasingly unhappy fan base at Arsenal but will the Frenchman sanction such a big spend?

We have one week to find out.
