It is being reported today that Jose Mourinho has set a deadline of August 7 for the signing of Paul Pogba.

The Telegraph report that if a deal is not done by that date - the day of the Community Shield game against Leicester - then United will begin to look at other options to bolster their midfield.

That gives the powers that be at Old Trafford a month to make the deal happen, with the player seemingly set to leave Juventus for either United or Real Madrid.

It has been reported the French star would prefer the La Liga giants but it has also been reported that United have already begun talks with the Italian club, suggesting they lead the race for the talented midfielder.

The huge fee being mentioned for the deal - £100m and £300k a week in wages - is one United are willing to pay as they look to get themselves back into the Champions League under their new boss.

Mourinho has already strengthened his squad with defender Eric Bailly, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic all arriving at Old Trafford in his first few weeks at the club.
