Raheem Sterling has only been back at Liverpool's training base for two two and already he is causing trouble - after reportedly refusing to go on the club's pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia.

Sterling has been the subject of two big-money bids from Manchester City for his services in recent weeks, with the player and his agent making it clear that they are keen to push through a move this summer.

Now Sterling has stirred emotions among Liverpool supporters once more, with widespread reports suggesting he has told Rodgers he is not in the right frame of mind to make the trip with his team-mates.

Sterling has been offered a fresh contract to stay at Liverpool, but he has declined that deal and his agent has been garish in his claims that the England winger will not sign a new contract with the Anfield club.

The expectation is that this latest ploy from Sterling will be backed up by a third bid from City for the winger, which is expected to be close to the £50m price tag Liverpool want for their 20-year-old star.

"Get rid of the lad and make sure you get as much money out of the deal as possible," is the view of Liverpool goal scoring great and Sunday World columnist John Aldridge.

"Hopefully the club can mess Raheem and his agent around for as long as possible before they agree to a deal because that is what they have done to Liverpool in the last few months.

"The kid is not worth anywhere near £50m, but Liverpool should try and get somewhere near that figure and get him out of the club."

Liverpool have let it be known to the media that they expect Sterling to be part of their pre-season tour party that will get on board a plane next Sunday.

Meanwhile, City are believed to have offered Liverpool their unsettled striker Stevan Jovetic as part of a possible deal for Sterling.
