Reaction to Paul Pogba's one-game ban has been predictably feisty
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will miss the first match of the season at Bournemouth due to suspension, the Football Association has announced.
United secured Pogba's return to Old Trafford to great fanfare earlier this week, signing him from Juventus in an £89million move.
But his second debut for the club will not come on the south coast after the Football Association listed him among four players to be banned for the opening weekend.
The FA used Twitter to say that the ban relates to two yellow cards issued in last season's Coppa Italia. The second card came in the final, which was his last game for Juventus.
Manchester United moved quickly to confirm they were fully aware of Pogba's suspension as they offered up this tweet:
Pogba's debut is now likely to be against Southampton, at Old Trafford, next Friday and the reaction to this unexpected twist has been predictably colourful on Twitter:
@FA imagine carrying over a suspension from a CUP game in Italy..this has nothing to do with the English league.Joke— Conor Maguire (@conzmag101) August 12, 2016
@RealKevinPalmer he got one in the semi and one in the final. Absolutely ridiculous— S (@chocolateutd14) August 12, 2016
Quite a few of you suggesting Pogba has been suspended for his dancing in that Stormzy video... Sadly though it is the Coppa Italia bookings— John Bennett (@JohnBennettBBC) August 12, 2016
