Player ratings as Zlatan Ibrahimovic hat-trick puts Manchester United in pole position

Jose Mourinho's side will take a three-goal advantage to St Etienne next week after Ibrahimovic netted his first United treble.

The build-up to the Old Trafford first leg was dominated with talk of the Pogba brothers clashing but the post-match chatter will surround the Swedish superstars.

Ibrahimovic has made a mockery of the doubters since his summer arrival at Old Trafford and the 35-year-old took his tally for the season to 23 with a hat-trick as United eventually saw off St Etienne 3-0.

Ibrahimovic. Paul Pogba put in a pretty decent performance on the night he faced his older brother Florentin but it was Ibrahimovic who unquestionably stole the show as he made off with the match ball.

St Etienne must be well and truly sick of Ibrahimovic - his goals here added to 14 he scored in 13 games against Les Verts in all competitions while at his previous club Paris St Germain.

As the Pogba brothers went head-to-head on the field, their mother Yeo and her other son Mathias made for eye-catching spectators watching from the stands. Each was wearing a top that was half red for United, half green for St Etienne and - like Florentin's hair - featured both players' shirt numbers. St Etienne's fans also made themselves noticed in a somewhat concerning manner, with a host of flares suddenly lighting up in the away end as the game got under way and a couple subsequently being thrown towards the pitch. UEFA, no doubt, will have taken note.
