Pep Guardiola has confirmed that he is leaving Bayern Munich to take up a role in England's Premier League.

The news that Guardiola is coming to England next summer will come as no surprise, with Manchester City believed to be leading the race to sign a coach who has also been linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea.

Yet he has now confirmed for the first time that he will be coming to England in 2016, as he made this statement at a press conference.

"I want to coach in Premier League. That is the reason I did not prolong my contract,” he stated.

"I want to experience a new city and I want to work in England. That is the reason I have taken this decision.

“I'm very happy and grateful to Bayern for the trust they've shown in me but I need a new challenge.”

Guardiola insisted he has yet to decide on a new club for next season, as he suggested there were several proposals on the table:

"There are offers, but I haven't signed anything yet," he confirmed.

"When I have a new club, the club will communicate that. At the moment, I can’t say anything else because nothing is fixed."

Guardiola reflected that his time at Bayern Munich will only be etched into history if his side win the Champions League this season, as he wished his successor well at Bayern.

“I'll only be a small part of the history of this great club. I will give my best until my last day in the job,” he added.

“Coaches come and go but I think Carlo Ancelotti is a perfect choice to take over and I wish him the very best. The squad was in great shape under Jupp Heynckes and it will be under Ancelotti

“Winning the Champions League would make my time here complete.”

City’s belief that Guardiola will take over as their manager next summer is unlikely to dilute Chelsea’s eagerness to sign a coach who has long been the dream appointment for Blues owner Roman Abramovich.
