Tottenham have confirmed that they will stage NFL games as their new White Hart Lane stadium when it opens for business in 2018.

Spurs had previously refused to confirm reports that they were set to host American football games at their home, with animosity from the club's supporters towards the proposal quickly rising.

Yet the club have announced plans to have an artificial pitch that will be used for NFL games under the grass surface that will be used for Premier League matches in an ambitious project that will get under way shortly.

“With growing enthusiasm for the NFL in the United Kingdom, we are committed to hosting NFL games in world-class venues and are excited to partner with Tottenham Hotspur to play games at their future stadium,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“We share a vision and commitment to creating the best experience for our teams, fans and the local community.”

In addition to the minimum of two games per year at the new Tottenham site, other NFL games may take place at different venues in the UK during the span of the 10-year agreement.

Spurs plan to build a 61,000-seater venue next to their current home, with a move to MK Dons stadium while the development is underway expected to be confirmed in the coming months.
