Neymar's father fuels transfer speculation over Barca star
The father of Brazilian superstar Neymar has fuelled speculation that his son could leave Barcelona, after refusing to deny he could make a move this summer.
Cynics scoffed at suggestions that Manchester United had a realistic chance of signing Neymar after making an audacious move last summer, yet it has since emerged that the Old Trafford club were given encouragement in their bid from the player's advisers.
While Barcelona insist they have no interest in selling one of their prized assets, Neymar Snr has offered up an interview that does little to banish the notion that his future could lie away from Spain.
"People know that there are various clubs interested in him for his football, but they don’t want to say that he’s talking to them or having any dealings," he was quoted in The Sun.
"People have said 10,000 different things about my son. Neymar has a contract at Barcelona and he has two years left. Neymar’s owners are Barcelona.
"Any proposals, any notifications or any formality that comes in respect to Neymar, without question passes through Barcelona and Barcelona alone.
"There’s lots of speculation and it’s clear he’s become mixed up in all that."
Fresh reports in Spain claim Neymar is set to sign a bumper new Barcelona contract imminently, but this curious transfer tale will continue to rumble along until we get confirmation that the new deal with the Catalan giants has been signed.
However, it still seems impossible to imagine Neymar being paraded as Jose Mourinho's big summer signing at Manchester United any time soon.
Instead, United fans can expect to see Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic complete his move to Manchester in the coming days, with Borussia Dortmund's Henrikh Mkhitaryan also reported to be close to a deal to join the Old Trafford club.
