Mourinho targeting Manchester United legend for Old Trafford coaching staff

Jose Mourinho wants former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand to form part of his backroom staff at Old Trafford, according to a report.

Mourinho wants to add former United and England defender Rio Ferdinand to his backroom team at Old Trafford while the Portuguese is eager to snap up 17-year-old West Ham starlet Reece Oxford, claims The Sun.

The now-pundit Ferdinand was immediate in his praise of United's capture of the Portuguese manager, posting a message stating that the 'wounded animal' Mourinho is the ideal fit for the club before United had officially confirmed the former Chelsea boss' signature.

Mourinho, meanwhile, is plotting a £54million deal to sign Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez, despite the 21-year-old recently signing a new deal with the Spanish giants, reports the Daily Star.

The paper also says that the agent of Paris Saint-Germain centre-half Thiago Silva has suggested the Brazil man could join United this summer.

According to the UK Times, Mourinho could swoop for former United player Paul Pogba after the elite midfielder was apparently informally placed on the transfer list by Juventus.

The Sun reports that Roma's Belgium midfielder Radja Nainggolan has turned down the opportunity to move to Chelsea but could be enticed to join Mourinho at Old Trafford.

The club has handed star teenage striker Marcus Rashford a new £20,000-a-week contract following his sensational form in the latter stages of the season, according to the Guardian. A new deal could also soon be finalised for Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

The same publication reports that star Ireland striker Shane Long will be given a huge new contract at St Mary's, as Southampton attempt to keep hold of the Tipperary man amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

This comes in the wake of Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino being spotted at the Aviva Stadium last Friday with Long's adviser Pat Dolan.

Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain wants to leave Serie A outfit Napoli this summer and would be interested in a move to Liverpool even though they have missed out on European qualification, says the Daily Mirror.

Another player that could be set to work with Jurgen Klopp is Borussia Monchengladbach central midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, who netted five times while providing eight assists in 32 overall Bundesliga appearances this season. The German outfit have already been raided by a Premier League club for a midfield player since the season ended after Granit Xhaka secured a switch to Arsenal.

Bayern Munich will resist any attempt from Real Madrid to prise away free-scoring striker Robert Lewandowski, claims Sky Sports.

And finally, Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has rubbished claims that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who scored 39 goals in all competitions this season, is set to leave, according to Bild.
