Mourinho says Man Utd move is his "million dollar question"
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he wants to return to management at the start of next season and admitted he did not know whether he would get a chance to take over at Manchester United next season.
Mourinho has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, with pressure mounting on United boss Louis van Gaal.
Yet the coach sacked by Chelsea in December appears to have confirmed suggestions that he is not keen to return mid-season, as he hinted the debate over whether he will take over at United is the “million dollar question” as he spoke to reporters in Singapore.
"Nobody knows and I am the first one not to know,” was Mourinho’s cryptic response on his next move.
“I read so many different things. One day says yes and one day says no. One other day says I go to China, another to Italy, I go to Milan and people say I'm going back to Inter.
"The reality is I like football so much and I miss football so when I get the chance to come back I will come back, but I have to wait to see what happens."
There have been claims that Van Gaal’s continued stay at United despite a woeful run of form this season is because Mourinho is not prepared to take over until next summer and that theory will be fuelled by these comments.
"I look to the future with more enthusiasm,” he added. “Now I enjoy my quiet life in this period when I'm not working in football and I hope in the summer I will be back.
"I always feel that it is better to wait and not to rush. It is better to wait for the right moment and the right move.
"I think starting next season with a new club and project is probably the best for me.”
