Jose Mourinho delivers double injury update as United prepare for Middlesbrough tie
Wayne Rooney is still on the injury list as Manchester United gear up to face Boro tomorrow afternoon while Luke Shaw could return to the squad.
Mourinho is speaking to the press this afternoon ahead of United's 3.00pm kick-off against Aitor Karanka's side on Saturday.
The Portuguese coach revealed that Rooney is still absent after missing out on the 3-1 Boxing Day win over Sunderland.
Meanwhile, full-back Shaw could add to the manager's defensive options though will not start tomorrow's game.
Jose Mourinho tells #MUTVHD: "Luke Shaw is training without any problem, but I don't think he's ready to start. Rooney is still injured."— Manchester United (@ManUtd) December 30, 2016
Asked about rotation over the busy Christmas period, Mourinho stated that he will start the best team available to him despite the packed fixture list.
"No, Middlesbrough is the next game and the next game you play to try to win.
"So against Middlesbrough we are going to think about Middlesbrough and try to choose the team that gives us guarantees and chances to win the match."
United currently sit in sixth position in the Premier League, 13 points off leaders Chelsea.
The Red Devils are just four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, however, in the race for a Champions League spot.
