Manchester United have announced that they have won the race to sign Memphis Depay, after fending off competition from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.

Depay and his advisers have already staged transfer negotiations with Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain as he weighs up a move this summer, with United officially entering the fray this week.

Now a deal has been confirmed by the Old Trafford club, as they posted this message on Twitter:

PSV confirmed the deal on their Twitter feed with this statement:

Depay offered his first thoughts on the move with this tweet:

Liverpool appeared to have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals after meeting first with the 21-year-old wonder kid, but United have won the race to sign a player who is a firm favourite with boss Louis van Gaal. reported last month that Depay favoured a move to Old Trafford, but the player was being urged by his advisers to consider a move to Anfield as it would guarantee more playing time next season.

Yet our story suggesting Depay had set his heart on a move to United appears to have been the primary reason why he has sealed a switch to Old Trafford.

The news comes as a hammer blow to Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who was hoping to make Depay one of his marquee signings this summer.

Yet it is the start of what is expected to be another lavish summer of spending at United, with Mats Hummels move from Borussia Dortmund expected to be rubber stamped in the coming weeks.
