Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has admitted he was 'honoured' to be the subject of transfer interest from Manchester United and has confirmed that he will not make a move this summer.

Hummels has been linked with a move to United for the last year, with the Premier League club making a move to sign the World Cup winning centre-back in early May.

Yet Hummels has finally gone public with comments to confirm he turned down the chance to join United and will remain at Dortmund.

“There have always been rumours about almost every one of our players, but I decided not to make the move this year,” Hummels said to reporters in Singapore.

“Of course when the big clubs are interested, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s an honour, but I decided I wanted to stay here.

"I've been at Dortmund for a very long time, I haven't set a limit. It’s hard to say what future brings, but I'm still here after seven years."

United have been aware for some time that Hummels had decided to stay at Dortmund and have moved their ambitions to alternative targets in recent weeks as they look to bolster the heart of their defence.
