Mats Hummels confirms he wants to move abroad
Manchester United transfer target Mats Hummels has confirmed that he is ready to move to a new country as he prepares to make an exit from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Hummels has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for the last year, yet reports that he was ready to complete the move to England in the January transfer window proved to be misguided at a time when Dortmund were battling for survival in the Bundesliga.
Now Hummels appears to have offered the biggest hint yet that he is ready to make a career-defining move, as he made these comments to Kicker magazine.
"Some days I think I would definitely like to move abroad but then, other days, I think I don't fancy it at all," he is reported to have stated.
"Basically, I think moving abroad would be good for my professional and personal well-being. Eventually, I'd like to leave the Bundesliga.
"I have had many conversations with the leaders of Dortmund, where I know I am a big part of the team, but I am yet to make a decision about my future.
"I'm being open about this because I'm not a fan of those who claim they are staying but, behind the scenes, have actually secretly agreed a transfer away from their current club.
"I will do what is best for my career and what I would like to do. Everyone knows how much I love it at Dortmund but I also want to make sure I'm part of a strong team with powerful players."
While the rumours linking Hummels with a move to United have circulated for many a month, this appears to be the first genuine confirmation from the German World Cup winner that he is ready to leave Dortmund.
United may not be the only club that would be in the race to sign Hummels, but he would certainly appear to be one of Louis van Gaal's prime targets as the Old Trafford boss plots another summer of spending.
