Manchester United may announce their third summer signing this week
Manchester United are close to finalising a deal to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, according to widespread reports in Italy and England.
United manager Jose Mourinho make Perisic one of his top transfer targets for this summer, as he flew to Croatia back in March for a one-on-one meeting with the experienced international.
That initial contact has been followed by a series of transfer talks between the two clubs in recent months, with Inter Milan's €50m asking price to their 28-year-old wide man proving to be a major stumbling block in negotiations.
Inter Milan are believed to have made a cheeky bid to sign United wide-man Anthony Martial as part of the deal, but that suggestion was quickly dismissed by Mourinho, even though the arrival of Perisic will put the future of the Frenchman in considerable doubt.
Martial has insisted he is ready to battle for his place in Mourinho's team, but the United boss publicly criticised the 21-year-old and his agent on several occasions last seasons as he struggled to find a regular spot in his side.
The future of Martial may become the focal point of attention if and when Perisic arrives at Old Trafford, which could happen as early as this week.
Perisic would join Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku as United's third signing of this summer, with Mourinho confirming on Saturday that he is keen to make four marquee additions to his squad ahead of the new season.
