Manchester United linked with humongous bid for midfield star
Jose Mourinho will attempt to bring star Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Veratti to Old Trafford by offering the French champions a huge £79million for the 23-year-old, according to reports in Italy.
Manchester United could be to set to make an outrageous bid for a new target as they look to add tenacity, bite and youth to their midfield options.
PSG star Marco Veratti, who was ruled out of Italy's Euro 2016 campaign with a groin injury, is the latest player on Mourinho's wishlist.
Veratti in action against United in a pre-season clash
Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport are reporting that United will attempt to prise away one of PSG's prize assets with an incredible £79million bid, according to the Daily Star.
An injury-hit campaign saw the Italian make just 11 starts in Ligue 1 this season, along with seven substitute appearances, as his side cantered to the title.
His 18 overall appearances reaped just three assists, while five Champions League starts saw the midfielder set up just one goal.
Veratti failed to hit the back of the net all season, which saw him play 27 times for Laurent Blanc's side.
Veratti with Italy legend Andrea Pirlo
However, Veratti has impressed in his four seasons at PSG, becoming well-known for his passing ability, combativeness and quick-thinking on the pitch.
Comparisons to countryman Andrea Pirlo are only natural, and while they are certainly far-fetched at this early stage of the midfielder's career, he has the tools in his locker to replicate the qualities of the much-vaunted 37-year-old.
