Manchester United confirm their first signing of the summer
Manchester United are about to complete their first major signing of the summer, after agreeing a £30.7m fee with Benfica for defender Victor Lindelof.
United came close to signing Lindelof in the January transfer window, but they could not finalise a move as they opted to wait until the end of the season to complete the deal.
Now the Old Trafford club have confirmed that agreement is in place for the 22-year-old Swede to travel to Manchester for a medical, before completing a move that is likely to be the first of many big name arrivals this summer.
“Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof, subject to a medical examination, international clearance and personal terms,” read a statement on the club’s website.
United manager Jose Mourinho views Lindelof as one of the most promising young defenders in world football, with the formalities of the deal se to be confirmed after Sweden’s international against Norway on Tuesday.
United are also believed to be closing in on a deal for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, with a £60m fee under discussion for a player who has decided he wants to make the move to United.
