Man Utd 'offered swap deal' for De Gea
Manchester United look set to be offered a Real Madrid player as part of the deal that will see goalkeeper David de Gea move to the Bernabeu this summer - but that will not be Gareth Bale.
Portuguese defender Fabio Coentrao appeared to be close to joining United on loan in the summer 2013, but the deal was not rubber stamped before the transfer deadline and he remained at Real Madrid.
Now Spanish newspaper Marca are reporting that Coentrao is back in the mix for a move to United, with the two clubs set to haggle over the price tag on De Gea.
With just 14 months left to run on his Manchester United contract, the Old Trafford club are not in a good position to haggle with Real Madrid as they look to get the best deal possible for De Gea.
However, the swap deal United may be keen to pursue as they prepare for De Gea's departure does not appear to be on the agenda yet, with Bale the high value target Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal is believed to be targeting.
The view has long been that a swap deal involving De Gea and Bale was unlikely, with both possible transfers viewed as separate transactions by the two clubs.
Our Sunday World back page last weekend (below) confirmed that the deals for De Gea and Bale to swap clubs this summer are moving forward, with the lines of communication between the two clubs set to be kept open over the coming months.
