Manchester City have insisted that they have NOT made an approach to replace manager Manuel Pellegrini with Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola this summer.

The Qatari-based beIN Sports channel had reported that City were in talks with Guardiola over a move to take over as their manager this summer, but the fallen Premier League champions have been quick to dismiss those theories and so have Bayern Munich officials.

Guardiola is under fire at Bayern Munich after a crushing Champions League semi-final first leg defeat against Barcelona was backed up by a home defeat in the Bundesliga against Augsberg on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pellegrini has been under pressure for months following an inconsistent season from City, that has given Chelsea a clear path to win this season's Premier League title.

With some of the City hierarchy familiar with Guardiola from their days working together at Barcelona, his appointment at the Manchester club would appear to be a natural fit at some point in the future.

Yet it seems the reports that he is already in discussions to move to City in the next few weeks may have been premature, assuming City and Bayern officials are being truthful in their proclamations.
