Luis Suarez was so in denial about the third bite of his career that he couldn't even admit the offence to his wife.

Sofia Balbi has given an interview to Canal 10 where she reveals that in the aftermath of Luis Suarez' most recent nibble on a defender, on Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup last summer, the Uruguayan denied he had done it.

“He told me he hadn’t done it. That is what he had in his head and even I began to believe it,” said Sofia.

“But the television and radio spoke only about the bite and after 10 days of us being alone he told me the truth.

“On the day of the game I phoned him and asked what he had done. He responded with ‘what?’ The same had happened in England and I insisted: ‘Again?’ He replied: ‘I haven’t done anything. Are you not happy because Uruguay qualified?’

“I was happy they went through but was also sad because I knew what was coming. I didn’t know exactly what would happen but I knew it wouldn’t be good. Things happen and you pay the price.”

Suarez himself didn't admit to the bite until days later, after initially claiming he lost his balance and fell into the Italian defender during the World Cup game but he eventually admitted the offence in a statement.

The incident resulted in a four-month ban for the striker from all football activity.
