Mario Gotze has completed a return to Borussia Dortmund, ending speculation of a possible move to join up with his old boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Klopp and Gotze enjoyed a flourishing working relationship during their time together at Dortmund, but that came to an end when the German World Cup winning forward made a move to domestic rivals Bayern Munich in the summer of 2013.

The striker went on to score Germany's winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, but his spell at Bayern was disappointing, as he struggled to prove his worth on the field and battled with a host of injury problems.

His departure from Bayern this summer was inevitable, which sparked suggestions that he may be set to link up with Klopp once more at Liverpool.

Gotze even hinted he may be interested in a move to Merseyside, but the lure a return to the club where he enjoyed his finest days turned out to be impossible to resist.

Liverpool have already added to their attacking options this summer with the £34m capture of Sadio Mane from Southampton and they look set to splash the cash again in the next few days after closing in on a move for Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
