The Anfield club will attempt to beat Manchester United to the signing of much-sought-after Sporting midifelder Joao Mario.

Liverpool will attempt to beat Manchester United to the signing of Portugal midfielder Joao Mario.

Portuguese media outlet A Bola has claimed that Liverpool have entered the race to sign the midfielder, according to the Express.

The paper says that the race also includes Chelsea, who have supposedly met with the player's representatives.

It was previously reported that United had scouted both Joao Mario and teammate William Carvalho, both of whom are part of Portugal's Euro 2016 squad.

Joao Mario, who has netted six times in 33 overall appeareances for Sporting this season, is reportedly highly-admired by fellow countryman Jose Mourinho.

Now it looks as though Jurgen Klopp has also taken note of the 23-year-old's form.
