Kolo Toure's lawyer comes up with brillaint and bizarre plea to dodge driving ban
The Liverpool defender was caught speeding twice last year but his lawyer has a genous reason why her client shouldn't be banned
The former Arsenal man was up on charges in court today in Warrington on two counts of speeding last year. Toure's car was clocked doing 57mph in a 40mph zone, and then 72mph in a 50mph zone in April and May 2014 and his lawyer, Lisa Wilson had a novel reason why her client should not be kept off the road.
“Using public transport like buses or trains often leads to a surge of people which is a safety issue to him and the public. If that happened on the train track, someone could be pushed under a train by accident, or under cars on the roads.”
In fairness to Wilson, she also offered a more reasonable plea fpr clemency, stating: “Mr Toure was the main carer for his brother and would spend a lot of time travelling between Liverpool and The Christie where his brother was receiving chemotherapy. It is usually a 70mph limit and this is not a case where Mr Toure was messing around, showing off, or driving through a residential area. This is partly a case where Mr Touré has other things on his mind.”
In the end, Toure was fined £660 and given eight penalty points.
