Klopp targets the first of his Borussia Dortmund old boys
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he has been given a green light to raid his old club Borussia Dortmund for players and his first target appears to be within touching distance.
Serbian international centre-back Neven Subotic was a firm favourite of Klopp during his time with Dortmund and reports in Germany suggest he could be the first big signing for Liverpool in the January transfer window.
Mats Hummels may be the highest profile defender on the Dortmund squad list, but Subotic may be a more realistic target for Klopp as he has struggled for first team chances this season.
The indifferent form of Dejan Lovren means a move for a new central defender may well be top of Klopp's agenda next month, although suggestions that he could lure Germany winger Marco Reus from Dortmund may be more than a little ambitious.
"I would like to see Klopp signing one or maybe two top players in January," former Liverpool striker John Aldridge tells sundayworld.com.
"It is never easy to sign players mid-way through the season, but the way Klopp has started at Liverpool might help him with a few of his possible targets."
