Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho retains the support of the club's hierarchy and will not be sacked in the near future, according to club sources.

Mourinho has overseen Chelsea's worst start to a season since the 1978-79 season, when they were eventually relegated from the top flight, yet Blues owner Roman Abramovich is keen to stand by his manager, report the BBC.

Chelsea have lost seven of their opening 12 Premier League manager and sit just three points above the relegation zone heading into the international break following last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Stoke.

Yet improved performances from the Chelsea team and positive vibes emerging from the Stamford Bridge dressing room have earned Mourinho another stay of execution in his post.

Chelsea offered a rare vote of confidence for their manager last month, with a warning that results needed to improve if Mourinho was to retain the continued support of his paymasters.

That upturn in results has not materialised, but Mourinho looks set to be in charge when Chelsea take on Norwich at Stamford Bridge on November 21st.
