Jose Mourinho received a rapturous reception as he attended his first game at Old Trafford since being appointed as Manchester United manager - as he revelled in the moment at the Theatre of Dreams.

Mourinho stepped back from his duties as manager of the England team in the Soccer Aid match, with pop stars Robbie Williams and Nicky Byrne part of a spectacle that also included star names like Ronaldinho, Jamie Carragher and Cafu.

The new United manager was due to take his position in the Old Trafford dug-out for the game, but he opted to take a seat in the stands as he allowed Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce to assume team manager duties.

Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov and Sunderland forward Jermain Defoe were among the scorer in a game won 3-2 by the England team, yet it was the money raised in front of a huge Old Trafford crowd that was a more significant point of the evening.

Mourinho certainly seemed to enjoy his first out at Old Trafford since being named United boss, with this reception on his arrival confirming his popularity.

Mourinho also posted this image with soccer legend Pele on his Instagram account, with the Brazilian legend in attendance for the charity game in Manchester:

Mourinho's first official night as Man Utd manager is likely to come when he takes part in Wayne Rooney's testimonial game in the first week of August, with the kick-off to the Premier League season coming a few days later.
