Ireland under-17s failed to spark into life as they crashed out of the European championships after a 1-0 defeat against England.

Ireland needed to get a positive result in their Group D game to keep their qualification hopes alive. but a stunning winner from Tottenham youngster Marcus Edwards proved to be decisive.

Edwards fizzing, curling shot was worthy of winning any game, but there was disappointment for Ireland's youngsters at the final whistle as their dreams of making the finals ended in disappointment.

Jonathan Lunney spurned Ireland's best opportunity as he had a chance to bare down on the English goal shortly after the break, but the chance was not converted and in truth, Ireland didn't create enough in front of goal to force the win.
