ITALY U17 2 IRELAND U17 0

Ireland suffered their first defeat at the UEFA U17 Championships when they went down 2-0 to Italy in Bulgaria today.

Tom Mohan's side gave further evidence that they belong at this level with a solid performance but they were left to rue their missed chances after they conceded a goal in each half to the more clinical Italians.

Ireland, who drew their opening group game 0-0 against the Netherlands now face one of the tournament favourites, England, on Wednesday (5pm Irish time).

The must-win game will be screened live on TG4.
