Pep Guardiola plays down Di Maria links
Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has played down suggestions that he has made Manchester United's Angel Di Maria his top transfer target this summer.
Reports in Germany had suggested Guardiola wanted to bring Di Maria to Germany after the Argentine star struggled in his fist season at United following a £59.7m move from Real Madrid last summer.
Yet Guardiola was keen to down play those rumours, as he spoke to the media for the first time after his summer break.
"I never said Di Maria or nothing," said Guardiola when asked whether he had made the United star his primary target for this summer.
"He is not my desired player. If there is anything to say about him, Matthias Sammer (Bayern Sporting Director) will know it."
Guardiola also confirmed that his experienced midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will be allowed to make a decision on his own future at Bayern, amid continuing links with a switch to link up with his old boss Louis van Gaal at Old Traffford.
"I have already said, read and heard a lot of things about Basti, but his future depends on him," added Guardiola.
"I think he will stay, but only he can decide. If he stays, that would be the perfect decision for me. He is a top player."
