Gareth Bale "considering his future at Real Madrid"
Manchester United transfer target Gareth Bale is reportedly considering his future at Real Madrid following the sacking of the club's head coach Rafael Benitez.
United tried and failed with moves to sign Bale last summer, but The Times are among those reporting that Benitez’s demise may pave the way for the Welshman’s arrival in Manchester.
Benitez promoted Bale as a star of his team during his predictably brief and turbulent seven-month spell as Real Madrid boss, with the world's most expensive player showing flashes of his best form this season.
Bale was jeered by sections of the Real Madrid crowd last season and while the club insist he is not for sale, United will be given some encouragement to suggest a deal could be possible following Benitez's demise.
A price tag of around £75m is being placed on Bale and while it seems improbable a deal could be struck in this transfer window, it could be a possibility next summer.
United have failed in several attempts to sign Bale, including a last bid to snatch him from Real Madrid shortly before they paid a world record £86m to sign from Tottenham in the summer of 2013.
