According to reports today, Manchester United are among the clubs looking to take Joe Allen from Liverpool.

The sensational rumour comes from the South Wales Evening Post, who report that the Welshman is very much in demand.

Allen, 26, has just one year left on his current deal at Anfield and it has been reported that discussions about an extension have yet to begin.

Former club Swansea were thought to be well positioned to bring the Welsh international back to the Liberty Stadium but the paper reports that Jose Mourinho may fancy taking the player to bolster his midfield.

However, Liverpool are unlikely to sell a player to their great rivals.

The last time a player moved directly between the clubs was in 1964 when Phil Chisnell moved from United to Anfield for a £25,000 fee.

Other clubs reported to be interested in Allen include West Ham and Stoke.
