While the focus for Arsenal fans all summer has been the pursuit of a striker, it seems it might be on defence that Arsene Wenger is deciding to splash the cash.

A player to lead the line beside, or instead of, Olivier Giroud has been the transfer story of the summer for the Gunners and the chase of Gonzalo Higuain remains high on the agenda for many.

But the papers today reckon that it is the back line that could see some new faces.

Today's Sun says that Wenger wants Manchester City’s Jason Denayer and Borussia Dortmund’s Matthias Ginter to bolster his options.

Denayer, a Belgian international, has yet to play for City but he has played a number of games during loan spells at Celtic and Galatasaray and the 21-year-old is thought to be anxious to make a move from the Etihad so he can become a first team player.

A fee in the region of £15m has been mentioned.

Ginter is 22 and someone Wenger has long admired. A regular in the Dortmund starting line-up last season, the paper believe the Bundesliga club are ready to let him go, and a price tag of around £12m is reported.

Meanwhile, over in the Mail, Arsenal are said to have landed a new centre-back from Bolton.

Rob Holding, an England U21 international, is reported to have had a medical at Arsenal on Monday and the player's £2m transfer is set to be confirmed when personal terms are resolved.

Bolton were relegated to League One last year but Holding was named the club's Player of the Year.
