FIFA announce list of nominees for new 'Best Player' award
FIFA have announced their shortlist for 'The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016'.
The new award comes about after the split between the Ballon d'Or and FIFA this year.
FIFA's list has a number of differences, with the following 10 players making the Ballon d'Or list but failing to make FIFA's 23:
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund), Paulo Dybala (Juventus), Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid), Gonzalo Higuain (Juventus), Koke (Atletico Madrid), Thomas Muller (Bayern Munich), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham), Rui Patricio (Sporting Lisbon), Pepe (Real Madrid) and Arturo Vidal (Bayern Munich).
Three players, all from the Premier League, make the FIFA list but failed to get a nod for the Ballon d'Or.
They were N’Golo Kanté (France/Leicester City/Chelsea), Mesut Özil (Germany/Arsenal) and Alexis Sánchez (Chile/Arsenal).
