Exodus of Man Utd youth under Jose Mourinho continues as promising young defender sold
Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett has joined Championship side Reading as Jose Mourinho continues to cull his squad.
The 22-year-old's move was announced this evening by both clubs.
United legend Jaap Stam, the current Reading boss, said of the move: "As we know, Tyler is a talented defender who has played for United's first team.
"He can play as a left-back or a left-sided centre-back; he has got great potential in the sense that he is quick and athletic, defensively he is strong and he is good at set-pieces.
"As a defender he can go and play high up the pitch as well, and that is what we need in the squad."
Reading's new signing spent last season on loan at Celtic but only managed three appearances.
Blackett is the second young defender to leave the club today as new Red Devils manager Mourinho wields his axe on the squad he inherited from the much-maligned Louis van Gaal.
Earlier on Monday, the Old Trafford outfit confirmed that left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has signed a year-long loan deal with Wolves:
The 19-year-old Borthwick-Jackson has made 14 appearances for United, all coming last season under Van Gaal, having made his debut last November.
