Everton defender John Stones is at the top of the wanted lists for many Premier League clubs, but Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has insisted his club will not sell his star turn next month.

Everton turned down a series of big-money bids for Stones last summer from Chelsea, with the Premier League champions believed to have bid in excess of £30m for the England centre-back.

Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign Stones in recent weeks, but Martinez was unequivocal in his answer to questions about a possible move for Stones in the upcoming transfer window.

"It doesn’t matter if Chelsea cor anyone comes in for him," Martinez told reporters.

"We created a squad to see how far we could go over 10 months. January doesn’t come into consideration,” the Spanish coach explained.

“We’ll never lose anyone in January — unless it’s somebody who hasn’t been playing and we need to find a solution. If he’s a top performer, it’s not even a consideration.”

Stones' reputation has soared this season as he has established himself as one of the finest defenders in English football and his future certainly seems to be with Everton for the foreseeable future.
