Emergency board meeting called at Chelsea for today
Chelsea officials are reportedly staging an emergency board meeting today, as speculation mounts over the future of manager Jose Mourinho.
The word from Stamford Bridge following Chelsea’s defeat against Leicester on Monday was that Mourinho’s position was safe despite a NINTH Premier League defeat of the season.
Yet after two days of recriminations following the defeat against the league leaders, Chelsea officials now appear to be meeting to discuss the position of the manager and the club ahead of Saturday’s game against Sunderland.
Sacking Mourinho now would be an expensive plan just a few months after he signed a four year contract with the club, but the discord between the manager and his players appears to have reached breaking point.
“It feels like my work has been betrayed,” Mourinho stated after the Leicester defeat on Monday.
“We concede two goals that are unacceptable to me. I know that one of my best qualities is to read the game for my players, to read the opponent, identify every detail about the opponent. These two goals are very difficult for me to accept. A big frustration for me to accept.”
Mourinho has vowed to continue as Chelsea manager and if they are to continue to back the manager, it may need the club to confirm he will be in place for the rest of this season to quell the unrest within his squad.
An alternative plan may see Mourinho’s departure, with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard among those who has suggested “something has to change” at his former club.
