Edinson Cavani's agent fuels transfer rumours
The agent of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has hinted that the Uruguayan striker could make a move to England next summer, fuelling rumours of a switch to Manchester United.
Cavani's adviser Claudio Anellucci did little to dampen down speculation that his client is ready to leave PSG and pursue a career in a different league, following fresh reports that United are keen to sign Luis Suarez's international strike partner.
With the United futures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao very much under a cloud, Anellucci's comments suggest Cavani is a player Louis van Gaal may have the option to turn to this summer.
"Is Cavani on the market? At this point it's a little early to say, but the markets right now are Spain and England," Anellucci told Radio Olympia.
"Edi is under contract at Paris Saint-Germain and there are several factors that come into play with respect to his future
"Once the situation is clarified there are several different scenarios given that players like him, at his level of maturity, are coveted by the biggest clubs in Europe."
Cavani has scored 15 goals for PSG this season, including a crucial strike in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 victory against Chelsea, but he has always lived in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic with the French capital club.
At the age of 28, the former Napoli forward is a striker in his prime and if United are serious about signing him, they would appear to be one of the few clubs that would boast the financial firepower to complete a deal.
