Manchester United new-boy Memphis Depay declared he was "proud to be a red" after he was officially unveiled at Old Trafford.

United confirmed last month that they had reached agreement to sign Depay from PSV Eindhoven and now he has signed a contract after the transfer window officially opened for business earlier this week.

“This is a dream come true for me," Depay told the Man Utd website.

"To play for the biggest club in the world and also to have the chance to work with someone who I believe is the best manager in the world, Louis van Gaal. I have great belief in my ability and I work hard to strive to achieve my dreams.

"I have been at PSV Eindhoven since I was 12 years old and I would like to thank them for everything. It was a great moment when we won the league and I was so happy to be part of that. This is now a new chapter in my life and one that I am looking forward to.”

United manager Louis van Gaal was pleased with his capture of a player he worked with in his Dutch national team at last summer's World Cup finals.

"He is a young versatile player who has the ability to play in a number of different positions," stated Van Gaal.

"It will take time for Memphis to get used to the rhythm of the Premier League but I have no doubt that he has the potential to become a great footballer for this club and he is at the right club to continue the good work he has done so far.”

It has yet to be confirmed which shirt number Depay will be given at United, with the No.7 he wore at PSV currently taken by United's record signing Angel Di Maria.

Also, Depay will never play a Premier League game in the United shirt he posed with above, as the club's £750m deal with Adidas will kick in at the start of next season.
