David De Gea signs new four-year deal with Manchester United
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has posed with his goalkeeper David De Gea, as the duo look to banish the notion that there is no linger animosity between the duo.
De Gea was on the brink of a move to Real Madrid in the summer, but the deal fell through at the last minute in controversial circumstances on transfer deadline day.
The Spanish keeper reported to be unhappy with his exclusion from Van Gaal's first team squad, but any rift appears to have been healed as the pair posed for this image on United's Twitter account.
Speaking about the deal on the Manchester United website David De Gea said: “I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career.
"I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans. Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career.
"I’m looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and concentrating on working hard to improve and help my teammates to be successful.”
Meanwhile, Van Gaal was pleased to end the long running transfer saga as he confirmed De Gea will return to his side for Saturday's game against Liverpool.
“I am absolutely delighted David has signed a new contract. He is one of the best goalkeepers in world football," said the United boss.
"I am very pleased that he will be part of the team for many years to come. David made a very important contribution to our performance last season and he has been the club’s Player of the Year for the last two seasons.
"He is a popular player who is keen to learn and enhance his game. At such a young age for a goalkeeper, he has many years ahead of him.”
